"Cutout Oval" Lacquered Partridge Feather Box
About the Item
This cutout oval box is hand made with sections that are attached by hand. The inner lip is molded to the shape. Then filler is used to cover all of that work. A primmer is applied to smooth out the interior surface then it is sanded.This process is done three times.Once the interior surface is smooth a first coat of black lacquer is applied then sanded, this is done twice more. Finally, a top coat of gloss varnish is applied 2-3 times as needed.
This cutout oval box is a mélange of colors from the Partridge fowl bird. The feathers are harvested as a meat byproduct in the USA. The rich colors consist of black, ivory, beige with tones of brown and grey. These feathers are hand applied one feather at a time! This artisanal technique is done with a secret sauce that has been used in the accessory trade for decades. Once the feathers have "set" meaning they are ready, then the interior begins. This consists of arranging and spacing the loose feathers inside the box so there is a visually pleasing pattern of unity. The bottom is finished with a 100% European black wool lining for protection. This box will compliment many style periods too.
