"Gilt Double Diamond" Gold Leaf Box with Feather Interior
About the Item
The "Gilt Double Diamond"
This box is a beauty. It is made with sections that are attached by hand. The inner lip is molded to the shape. Then filler is used to cover all of that work. A primmer is applied to smooth out the exterior surface then it is sanded, this process is repeated 2-3 times. Once that exterior work is completed it's ready for the next Artisan who is a French gilder with 25 years of experience of working on outdoor sculptures to interior restorations for the most important buildings in NYC and along the East Coast. After the box is leafed, it then transported covered in a wool/cotton batting for protection. At this step a top coat of gloss varnish is applied 2-3 times as needed.
The interior work consists of Black and Ivory Guinea feathers hand applied one feather at a time! This artisanal technique is done with a secret sauce that has been used in the accessory trade for decades.The Guinea Fowl bird's feathers are a byproduct of the meat industry in the USA. The box's color palate is classic blending in easily with many looks, styles, themes and periods. Often when I create, my original vision changes, this is just as I imagined. I'm thrilled with the outcome of this box and know that you will be too.
