English Art Deco Geometric Two-Tone Shagreen with Bone Cigarette or Trinket Box

$1,250

About

This exquisitely crafted English Art Deco cigarette or trinket box is one of the best shagreen boxes that we have seen. It features a gently domed lid with an all-over geometric design in green and rose shagreen divided by a thin bone strip. The workmanship is stunning with a magnificent centre grained sheet of shagreen to the lid. All shagreen is present and shows only slight fading and some slight yellowing to the edges but no losses. The wooden interior is stunning and the underside of the box is covered in rose shagreen as opposed to the usual leather, cloth, wood or baize. Even the brass piano hinge is shiny and with all screws present. This is a rare and beautifully crafted piece in wonderful condition for its nearly 90 odd years.
