SUBJECT: BRASS ART DECO STUNNING LIDDED BOX / CASKET, MADE BY WMF with original wooden liner MANUFACTORY: WMF GERMANY GEISLINGEN DATING: CIRCA 1920 / 25 MATERIAL: BRASS and WOODEN LINER TECHNIQUE: ELECTROTYPE METALWARE TECHNIQUE MARK: The (small) WMF mark is well visible at reverse side of casket: It is the WMF mark consisting of an ostrich enclosed in a rotated square which is enclosed in a bipartite beehive mark, having been introduced by WMF on 1st June 1910. - The WMF-firm's choice of an ostrich as a trade-mark was determined by the owners' - the Straub family - heraldic animal, which had been an ostrich / the German word for it is STRAUSS. SPECIFICATIONS: This ART DECO LIDDED CASKET with martelé surface of glazed appearance is of breathtaking impression - the box is manufactured in following manner: It is of rectangular form type / the (bulged) lid is crowned by decorative symbol of acorn with leaves / the acorn is made of bone. Additionally, the casket's outer wall is ornamented with straight lines. The box stands on four round feet of squeezed type / its inner side is lined with wood. MEASURES: HEIGHT: 11.0 cm (4.33 inches) WIDTH: 23.0 cm (9.055 inches) DEPTH: 15.0 cm (5.90 inches) MADE CIRCA 1920 - 25
