A German nautical prestation glass and bronze box made by W.M.F circa 1920
About the Item
A rare early competitive sailing presentation box which is of nautical interest and made by W.M.F.
This superb W.M.F. presentation cut glass and bronze box is of nautical interest. It is a presentation piece awarded by the prestigious N.R.V. which is the North German sailing association founded in 1868 who are competitive in important events and races including in recent time establishing an Olympic team in the year 2000. This beautiful box is made by W.M.F. and bears their stamp on the hinge. The container is made from clear crystal and is decorated with a hand cut art deco design. The lid is made from bronze and bears a wonderful view of an early competitive sailing yacht racing on an open sea with a shoreline and other yachts in the distance. It is hand engraved with the presentation N.R.V. dated 1920- 21 and the name of its recipient ELBE. This was the first year, post war that the event took place. A most interesting piece in excellent original condition. Circa 1920
