Late 19th Century French Napoleon III Period Marquetry Game Box, Mother of Pearl
About the Item
This mid-nineteenth century Napoleon III marquetry game box is made of rosewood, ebonized pearwood, and thuya and features a central bronze cartouche detailed with mother of pearl inlay. Inside, five removable palisander trays contain thirty-three round mother-of-pearl chips, fifty-six long rectangular mother-of-pearl chips and twenty-seven short rectangular mother-of-pearl chips. The gambling chips in different sizes represented different monetary values. Included are also two counters with hinged bronze tabs. An exquisite collector's piece, circa 1860. Includes one key.
