Boulle marquetry tea box, Napoléon III period, late 19th century signed Vervelle

About the Item

Beautiful Boulle marquetry and blackened wood tea box / tea caddy, brass pattern inlaid, mahogany veneer inside. Mid 19th century circa 1840 - 1850, typical early Napoleon III period production. A PG monogram is engraved in the brass cartouche on the lid. Our box is signed Vervelle Aine : Alexandre Louis Vervelle, great Parisian cabinet maker, was born in 1800 and died in 1856 in Paris. The manufacturer's work is very well known in the capital for small pieces of furniture, jewelry boxes, tea boxes, travel sets, liquor sets. Vervelle Aine is a very prestigious signature in this range of products, particularly from 1835 onwards. In very good condition. No brass lack, no distortion ; all the lids inside are still there : the mahogany lids on top, and the aluminium covered intermediate lids too (intermediate lids are meant to preserve original taste). The key is missing. A very small veneer lack on the base. Length : 21.8cm Width : 13.1cm Height : 11.3cm
