About the Item

Stunning and handcrafted, multipurpose box. For us, this antique really ticks all the boxes (no punt intended). It is unique in the world, it is incredibly well made and all handcrafted, it is a feast for the eyes, it is in amazing condition and it is highly practical, complete and all original. We are not sure what this extremely decorative and intricate box was made for, but it is a strong box that nowadays could be used for all kinds of purposes. The bottom of the inside is marked (see image 9) and we are certain you will never in your live (or any of your future lives) find anything remotely like this box. In the 'cartouche' on top (below the handle) the word 'SALIH' is carved. We believe that is the name of the plant or herb that is engraved all around and inside this unique antique. To make things complete, this box comes with a perfect working lock with the original key. The brass was made in England, but we feel that this unique box was handcrafted in the former British colony of India. This piece is great value for money. A beautiful antique and all handcrafted jewelry box with a striking velvet lining. This rare and larger size jewelry box or casket makes a beautiful accessory for a lady with an eye for fine arts. It is a very well made gem and highly practical with seven drawers and a good working lock and key in the right door and two sliding brass 'locks' in the inside of the left door. This box opens and closes perfectly and its striking presence will grace your vanity or dresser in a way that no modern piece ever could. The drawers come with a stunning blue lining and the three 'tiers' each have their own kind of interior. The top tier may have been made for pocket watches or circular brooches. The one below could have been made for necklaces and/or bracelets and the two bottom tiers, consisting of four drawers would have been used for all other types of jewelry.
