Lacquered jewelry box. Venice, last quarter of the 18th cent.
About the Item
Small lacquered wood jewelry box on ivory ground; shaped at the edges it is supported by four flattened ball feet. On the sides and top of the rocaille reserves in shades of blue contain landscapes animated by oriental figures done monochrome in shades of pink; the edges of the top and base frame are painted in a Greek pattern of successive leaves, an element that confirms to us a dating already affected by neoclassical taste. Inside there is a simple pinkish lacquer with a reserve painted similarly to the others under the floor. Wrought iron hinges and lock.
