"Ducks in Flight" Table Snuff Box Made in Birmingham by Daniel Pettifer, 1851

About the Item

A Very Rare "Ducks in Flight" Table Snuff Box Made in Birmingham in 1851 by Daniel Pettifer. The Snuff Box has a shaped base and rim and incuse corners. The sides are engraved with engine turning, as is the base, which also displays a raised foliate scroll and flower head border. The cover is unusually decorated with floral sprays and foliate scrolls in high relief. The centre is engraved with a detailed oval panel engraved with Ducks in flight in reeds and over water. The engraving is a subject very seldom seen on a box and has been executed to the finest standard. The engraved panel is surrounded by engine turned decoration. The box is in excellent, crisp, condition and is very well marked inside. The interior also displays fine gilding and this piece is also of a very good weight and gauge. Additional information: Length: 3.5 inches, 8.75 cm. Width: 2.5 inches, 6.25 cm. Height: 1.1 inches, 2.75 cm.
