About the Item

A Georgian-era tortoiseshell card case of refined, minimalist form, circa 1830 or earlier, the surfaces composed of richly patterned shell plates in mottled honey, chestnut, and espresso tones, the figure well-bookmatched and gently domed to the hand. The body is framed with thin silver stringing that outlines the hinge line and perimeter, and the case opens via a small side-mounted silver thumbpiece to reveal a shallow interior fitted for visiting cards or calling papers. The proportions are slim and elegant, with slightly bowed faces and softly radiused sides consistent with early card cases made in England or northern France during the late 18th and early 19th century. A restrained yet luxurious example of personal social accessories in the Georgian–Regency period, combining organic beauty with subtle metalwork detailing and the tactile appeal prized in early pocket-carry objects. Measurements: 2.75" w x 3.625" h x .375" d.
