19th-century English Tea Caddy by P. & F. Schäfer, London A Tea Caddy by the toiletry bag makers P. & F. Schäfer, 19th century (John Philip Schäfer, Sophia Schäfer, Christian Philip Schäfer, Frederick William Schäfer): 27 Piccadilly, London – 48 Cornhill, London. 27 London. An octagonal walnut box with a hinged lid. The name, street, and town are engraved on the hinge. The box is decorated with gilded bronze ornamentation and malachiite stones. The interior, with two compartments and lids, is also gilded and engraved with the text "Black" and "Green" for the tea. A small key present. In 1883 (May 11, 1883), receivers were appointed to oversee the Schafers' liquidation. One of them was later replaced by G. Betjemann (George Betjemann & Zonen (George Betjemann, George William Betjemann, John Betjemann, John George Betjemann, Ernest Edward Betjemann): 6 & 7 Upper Ashby Street, Clerkenwell, London – 36, 38, 40 Pentonville Road, London. George Betjemann, established in 1851), also a maker of toiletry bags, located at 36 Pentonville Road.
