An exceptional 19th century rosewood tea caddy, originating from Saint Croix in the Virgin Islands, crafted in the English taste. This rare island piece is fashioned in a sarcophagus form with brass trim and rests on four rosewood bun feet. Two brass side handles and the original key are intact, showcasing both elegance and functionality.
The caddy features two interior compartments designed for storing tea, a missing glass cup in the center its only loss. Despite this, the piece remains a remarkable survivor of its era. The warm rosewood, enriched by brass accents, gives the caddy a distinguished presence.
Tea caddies from Saint Croix are seldom seen, making this example particularly unusual and desirable. A fine addition for collectors of rare island antiques and English inspired decorative arts.
