About the Item

This is a rare early 19th-century (c.1820) Chinese antique large lacquered gilt tea chest, containing an original pewter tea caddy liner. The chest is beautifully decorated with village scenes and side handles. All hand-painted with gilding in fine detail. The internal Paktong caddy liner decorated with hand chased and engraved figures. The chest is slightly heavy due to the weight of the Paktong liner. Losses on the edges and handle of interior liner. Gilt painted P initial and garland design.
