About the Item

Beautifully Patinated Repousse Design From our Decorative collection, we are delighted to introduce this superb example Repousse Tea Caddy by Grinsell and Bourne. The Tea Caddy of large oval shape extensively decorated in the French Louis XV style with a repousse band of mythical scenes depicting cherubs, fauns and animals upon a patinated brass body. The Tea Caddy sits upon a flared plinth base with an acanthus leaf border matching the lid with beaded stringing. The lid of the vase is finished with a further repousse cherub panel with a goat. The lid of the Tea Caddy hinges up revealing the beautifully gilded interior with two engraved compartment lids and a flamboyant engraved hinge. The interior contains two removable gilded tea caddies one of semi-circle shape and the other of oval shape. The Repousse Tea Chest is stamped to the side of the exterior with the G&B hallmark for Grinsell and Bourne and dates to the mid 19th century Victorian period circa 1865.
