About the Item

A fine tea chest or tea caddy in satinwood with crossbanded edges on the lid and all four sides, the lid, front and sides inlaid with ovals of tortoiseshell. The lid, centered with an engraved bail handle opens to an interior with two removeable rectangular tea boxes fitted with oval lids with oval tortoiseshell inlays centering a lined circular well containing a glass bowl (bowl replaced), The lid and well each lined with red fabric. The chest is raised on four ball feet and has a bone keyhole shaped escutcheon centered on the front. A key is present but does not operate the lock.
