Georgian Antique Octagonal Sycamore Tea Caddy 18th Century

About

Antique harewood octagonal tea caddy with tulipwood edging and inlaid oval medallions containing tea plants. The interior of this charming Georgian harewood tea caddy features a mahogany floating lid with brass handle, still has traces of its original foil lining, comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key. The purpose of a floating lid is so it sits on the tea to keep it fresh. Sycamore, also known as harewood is a member of the Maple family, found in Europe. It is light yellow in color and is often a very clean wood with a straight, fine grain. The wood is often pippy. However, these pips are usually a very similar color to the rest of the wood making them hardly visible.
