About the Item

From our Tea Caddy collection, we are delighted to offer this Georgian Oval Tea Caddy. The Tea Caddy of elongated Oval form veneered in Harewood with Boxwood stringing to the lid around the perimeter. The front of the Tea Caddy features a tied husk swag inlay with two blossoming flowers surrounding a bone escutcheon. The lid of the Tea Caddy features a central oval cartouche with an inlaid abstract flower. When opened the Tea Caddy reveals a floating lid with a brass ball handle. The Tea Caddy dates to the late 18th century during the Georgian era circa 1790.  The Antique Tea Caddy comes complete with working lock and tasselled key.  Harewood is a type of sycamore maple which has been stained and treated to take the natural cream colour to a rich brown. Boxwood can be found in Europe, Northwest Africa and Southwest Asia. It is a light cream that turns darker to brown when exposed to light. The trees are very small, which is suited to smaller projects like edging or inlay instead of veneers. The Georgian era was a period in British history dating from 1714-1837, the Georgian era after the Hanoverian kings George I, George II, George III and George IV. Measurements (centimetres) 12cm High x 14cm Wide x 9cm Deep

A late 18th century, Georgian, Mahogany tea caddy having extremely attractive inlaid conch shells, banded and strung decoration, with hinged lid enclosing lidded interior retaining partial paper foil lining. This particular caddy is relatively plain and simple in design, but the attractive inlaid decoration lifts it significantly.
