About the Item

An antique tea chest, a treasured possession in the early Victorian era. This locked mahogany box preserved the tea leaves and was displayed in the drawing room of English aristocrats. This example has two compartments on the sides to differentiate green tea from black tea. In the center, a sugar container is decorated with elegant ornamentation. This sarcophagus-shaped chest is accented by a small molding at the bottom and rests on four small "pancake" feet. The lid, with its aligned frame, features a slightly softened bec de corbin molding around its edge. The top consists of four pyramidal sections topped with a rectangle with small moldings. On the sides of this chest, two turned knobs allow for transport. It is secured by an original double-hook lock with its original key and a recessed brass diamond-shaped entry. The interior features two mahogany compartments on each side, each with small flaps on brass hinges. This luxurious antique tea box will delight lovers of unique and authentic objects. ******** Period: Mid-19th century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop.
