A French XIXth Century Pair of Louis XVI Style Candelabras
Two candelabras in bronze very finely chiseled and gilded with two fluted branches, the twisted barrel from which escapes at the top four chainettes, surmounted by a pine cone.
Rich ornamentation of acanthus leaves, garlands of pearls and oleanders.
Resting on a white marble base and four ormolu feet.
Louis XVI style
Circa 1870
The Louis XVI style, which was born between 1750-1795, and reborn under the 2nd Empire, abandons the convoluted lines of the Louis XV style for a return to straight lines, decorated with great lightness. The time, thanks to the bonhomie of Louis XVI and the cheerful char-acter of Marie Antoinette is tired of the originality and exuberance of the style Rocaille; it is enamored with naturalness and simplicity.
It is a period of great sobriety, well-balanced furniture, well-proportioned, geometric: the square, the oval, the rectangle, the round is in vogue.
