About the Item

Pair of solid brass Italian 1950's candelabra by architect-designer, Cesare Lacca. Each holds four candle tapers. Look closely at the phenomenally skillful brass work using solid brass rod. The ends look almost like pulled taffy! Each cup unscrews and bobeches can be removed for ease of cleaning. So dainty and elegant. Likely produced by Studio Arte Applicata, Milano. From "Italy at Work; Her Renaissance in Design Today" by Meyric Reynold Rogers, 1950: "These last qualities are most evident in the objects and accessories in brass produced after the war by several designers but principally by the architect Cesare Lacca who has also turned his energies to furniture and lighting fixtures. The variety and quality of his creations included in the exhibition place him high among the architect designers leading the current movement. The quality of his work depends again upon a keen feeling for proportion and the inherent qualities of the material which provide all the decorative effectiveness needed without strain or exaggeration."
