Pair Of French 17th Century Louis XIV Period Ormolu And Rock Crystal Candelabras

About the Item

A sensational and extremely high quality pair of French 17th century Louis XIV period ormolu and rock crystal candelabras, circa 1680. Each eight arm girandole is raised by a circular mottled base with fine seashell, floral patterns, and richly chased female maidens set on a hammered background and fine entrelacs et les rosaces designs. The square tapered central support displays cut corners and lovely floral designs with richly chased alternating male and female busts. The arms spread over two tiers each displaying most elegantly scrolled movements and superb hammered designs each adorned with stunning teardrop and kite shaped facetted rock crystal pendants leading to fluted bobeches and baluster shaped candle cups. Beautiful elegantly curved foliate supports lead upwards to lovely acanthus leaf sprays with additional rock crystal pendants all below the exquisite majestic crown finial with lovely foliate accents. All original gilt throughout.
