About the Item

A most elegant and very high quality pair of French early 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu candelabras. Each eight arm candelabra is raised by fine mottled feet below impressive block rosettes and flanked by striking pierced recessed interlocking foliate movements. Above lovely wrap around beaded and reeded bands is the acanthus leaf socle shaped pedestal leading to the exceptional tapered central support with beautiful intricately detailed maidens with their hair tied in updos and adorned with superb swaging blooming floral garlands. Above octagonal support decorated with rosettes is the lightly curved neck with a remarkable spiral fluted design from where the arms branch out. Each elegantly scrolled arm displays exceptional Rinceau movements and impressive finely chased caryatids below the reeded candle cups decorated with charming berried laurel branches. Above at the center is an impressive urn with a striking eternal flame finial, handsome lion head supports and paw feet in an exquisite satin and burnished finish. All original gilt throughout.
