About the Item

A beautiful and elegant set of 3 Italian Florentine candelabra in Mecca carved wood and gilt silver dating from the mid to end of the 18th century. They are Louis XVI in style. The gilding technique is known as "Mecca". It is a 17th century gilding technique of coloring the actual silver leaf with a gold varnish (Mecca) that makes it appear as gold leaf. Each candelabra measures 14.96 inches high. The bases are 14.56 inches wide and 4.33 inches deep. The use of these objects took place in the ecclesiastical sphere. These candelabra were sacred objects placed used in the alter of a church. As they were used in a church alter, the backs were never seen. Therefore, they are only gilded on the front. Item located in Italy. They have visible signs of aging including small holes from past wood worms. The candelabra have been treated to insure there is no issue.
