Victorian Sterling Silver Two Light Candelabrum

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver two light candelabrum centrepiece; an addition to our ornamental Victorian silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian English cast sterling silver candelabrum has a circular waisted form. This antique 19th century table candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit arms. The two sterling silver scrolling arms are ornamented with enveloping scrolling leaf designs supporting circular shaped drip pans, embellished with further foliate decoration. The circular waisted capitals are fitted with sconces, encompassed with further foliated decoration to the rims. The elevated central portion of the labra is surmounted with a leaf decorated boss. This Victorian silver candelabrum can be used as an imposing candlestick once the push fit arms (labra) are detached. The impressive waisted column is embellished with cast scrolling leaf decoration, and incorporates a shaped cartouche displaying an engraved crest of a lion rampant crowned between two wings, all surmounted with a coronet. The swept base is ornamented with further cast foliated decoration, paralleling the plain swept collet rim. This exceptional antique candelabrum does not have a filled base. This exceptional candelabrum was crafted by the renowned London silversmith Richard Sibley I. Such original cast examples of this period are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition This antique 19th century table candelabrum is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is all very sharp. The hallmarks struck to the surface of the base and sleeve of the central boss are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this exceptional example of antique silverware.
