Vintage Sterling Silver Two Light Candelabra (1968)
About the Item
An exceptional pair of vintage Elizabeth II English sterling silver two light candelabra; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection.
These fine vintage silver candelabra, in sterling standard, have a circular rounded form.
Each impressive candelabrum bears two plain arched arms, emanating from a conical rounded column.
The labra (arms) each support a circular rounded capital with fixed sconce.
The tapering columns are embellished with an engraved simplified pleating and buttoning pattern, to plain circular spreading bases.
Each vintage sterling silver candelabrum does not have a weighted base.
These exceptional candelabra were crafted by the renowned and collectable silversmith A. Edward Jones Ltd*.
NOTE: * Albert Edward Jones became A. Edward Jones Ltd in 1954.
Condition
These vintage silver candelabra are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
Each piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each base are all very clear.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these 20th century silver candelabra.

The surface of each exceptional example of antique silverware has a subtly planished finish. Each impressive two light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked scrolling arms, supporting two rounded organic-shaped baluster capitals with plain circular dished drip pans. The scrolling arms of each candelabra incorporate magnificent scrolling leaf and bead decoration, all in the Arts and Crafts style. The plain bulbous columns surmount a plain circular foot, accented with a petal decorated border to the junction. The bases of these magnificent cast candelabra are not weighted. These fine vintage Elizabeth II sterling silver candelabra have a plain circular form, in the George I style. Each impressive two-light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms, which support two rounded waisted capitals with plain circular dished drip pans. These versatile vintage candelabra can be used as candlesticks once the arms (labra) are detached. The knopped stems are surmounted on sunken wells, to tooled decorated circular spreading bases. The filled bases retain the original leatherette covering to the underside. The base of each was made by Richard Comyns of William Comyns & Sons Ltd and the labra were crafted by William Bruford & Son; these items will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system the bases are struck with the date letter 'd' and the labra bear 'e'. Each impressive three light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms embellished with reed decoration. The branches (labra) support two cylindrical capitals, each encompassed with bands of applied gadroon decoration. The capitals are fitted with the original hallmarked push fit square sconces, embellished with further gadroon decorated borders to the rims. Each capital of these Victorian candelabra centrepieces surmounts an impressive square drip pan, featuring identical ornamentation to that of the sconces. Each silver candelabrum is fitted with a third detachable central elevated capital.
