About the Item

A wonderfully designed Hanukkah Lamp made in Italy in the 17-18th centuries maybe earlier. This Hanukkah lamp backplate is designed in a triangular shape as was classic with older Italian designs in furniture, wooden frames, and other Italian decorative items Featuring a heavenly scene where two winged angels in sitting positions are holding up a Torah crown over a blank mirror-like cartouche at the center. Intricate Italian scrolling patterns are embellished around this holy scene. A single cast piece containing eight deep circular oil receptacles with long rectangular spouts is affixed to the bottom of the backplate. This shape and method of casting is very similar to many Hanukkah lamps which were made during the 16-17th Centuries. A copper ring affixed to the ring formed at the top was used for hanging purposes.
