About the Item
A high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu sconces. Each beautiful sconce is centered by a circular bottom finial below foliate decorations coming from the plinth of the column above. The square tapered back plate displays recessed panels as well as a mottled central band. Just below the top capital are the two outer 'S' scrolled foliate decorated arms that connect above the central arm. At the end of each arm are fluted bobeches that present the mottled candle cups above. The top capital of the back plate displays a wonderful rosette within a square panel. Just above the rosette is the unique top crown of a spherical reserve with handles on either side and flames emerging from the peak.
