19th C. Pair of Louis XV Gilt Bronze Candlesticks with French Royal Coat of Arms
About the Item
A 19th century finely chiseled pair of French Louis XV gilt bronze figural candlesticks in the manner of Juste-Aurèle Meissonier, famous 18th cnetury French designer.
Height 12.40 inches
The candlesticks have a richly chiselled stem with rocaille elements and French coat of arms with three fleur-de-lys and a pair of puttis that twist around the central axis, creating a tortile effect that gives movement and momentum to the structure.
The broad round base decorated with curled cartouches, foliage and shell motifs, displaying an unusual and rare water beams coming from the stem which seems to spred on to the base
Removable drip pans with godroned rim.
The candlesticks are very decorative and can be used for example over a surtout de table or in a table. They can also be placed above consoles and chest of drawers, combined with antique furniture or contemporary taste.

A standing flute player, accompanied by a singer sitting on a rock holding a sheet music book. The couple are accompanied by a dog sitting quietly next to it and scratching its ear. The whole is embellished with flowery and foliage branches, volutes and large scrolls of acanthus, enclosing reserves lined with crimson velvet fabrics with pierced brass plates with stylized foliage and scrolls. This bucolic scene draws its inspiration from the paintings by Nicolas Lancret and Antoine Watteau. The circular white enamelled dial is signed “Regnauld à Chaalons”, indicates the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals by two pierced and gilded brass hands; the movement plate on the back is also signed.
