A Fine Pair of 19th C. Neoclassical Style Gilt Bronze Cassolettes / Candlesticks

About the Item

A very fine pair of Neoclassical Revival gilt bronze cassolettes / candlesticks after a design by Matthew Boulton (1728-1809). Both finely cast & richly gilded amphora shaped bodies decorated with neoclassical elements of ram’s heads & bellflower swags, and fitted with removable socle shaped tops. Both tops feature the ability to convert into candleholders when reversed & returned back into their respective bodies. Raised overall on fluted columns issuing from laurel wreath mounts, atop richly gilded squared & stepped bases on turned supports. Both are finely cast to the point of each of the eight supports indented with a series of small dots - numbering from one to four, indicating their dedicated positions to be mounted on each of the two bases.
