About the Item

An authentic, brutalist, mid-century modern chain candleholder sourced in France. This is a spiked candleholder made for pillar candles (up to a maximum of approximately 12 cm/ 4 3/4" in diameter) and tabletop usage. A one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted object most likely dating from the 1950/60s. The candleholder features no maker's marks or signatures. Thick iron chain-links have been welded together and mounted/welded to a sturdy square iron base. Despite its brutalist style, attention has been made to details. The base and the round drip pan/wax pan have been carefully hammered with a decorative motif (see photos). The surface of the candleholder has a wonderful finish that resembles aged bronze. The candleholder is very sturdy thanks to its weight and the size of its base (the candleholder weights and impressive 5.5 kg/ 12 lbs). This is definitely one of the best, authentic, vintage chain candleholders I have come across. In very good vintage condition. The surface of the candleholder has not been polished nor treated in any other way. It still has its original patina that comes with age. The candleholder has no missing sections or repairs. The candleholder shows minor signs of wear consistent with use and age (see photos). Dimension: height with spike 50 cm/ 19 3/4", width 19 cm/ 7 1/2", depth 19 cm/ 7 1/2", length of spike 3 cm/ 1 1/4". Weight: 5.5 kg/ 12 lbs.
