Pair of Large Antique French Chinoiserie Brass Candlesticks in Pagoda Style
About the Item
A pair of large, antique, tripod candlesticks in brass in a unique chinoiserie style. Their néo-gothic, pagoda shape and their impressive size (12 inches tall) make them highly decorative.
These candlestick could possibly have been made for altar/church use. Made out of brass alloy, they weigh an impressive 1.34 kg/2.95 lbs each. The elaborated, three foot/sided metal work is handmade, most likely out of brass alloy sheets. The middle section seems to be hollow. Since the candlesticks are hand-crafted, they differ slightly in size. They feature no makers marks or signatures. Sourced in Alsace, France.
The candlesticks are sold as a pair in their antique condition. They have not been polished thus their original patina remains. There are no missing pieces or dents in the metal. No structural issues however, ever so slightly crooked. Normal signs of wear coherent with age and use (see photos).

The lanterns have no maker's markings but most likely dates from the early 1900s. Their design is strongly inspired by the Arts and Crafts mouvement (1880-1920). The lanterns have been sourced in Northeastern France. These antique lanterns are made to be suspended. The structure of the lanterns is made of metal, most likely a copper alloy. The inside is made of slightly amber colored/smokey glass that has been mouth blown into the wrought metal frame in one single piece. When lightened, the light does not only shine through the body of the lantern but also through the small, circular glass sections on the top and on the bottom of the lantern. The lanterns are sold unwired. There is a hole on the top of each lantern for easy wiring, i.e. fit for a wire with a light socket. They can thus easily be adapted to any voltage (see photo).
