Pair of Antique English King of Diamonds Brass Candlesticks

About the Item

A pair of fine antique King of Diamonds English brass candlesticks. James Clews & Sons of Birmingham designed the Diamond series of candlesticks to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. Entitled the ‘Ace of Diamonds', ‘King of Diamonds’ and ‘Queen of Diamonds’. The designs proved incredibly popular and are widely collected in the US and British Commonwealth. Simply a wonderful pair of English brass candlesticks! Date: Late 19th or Early 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall fair, as-pictured, used estate condition with some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Condition Details: There is a repair to one section the shaft of one candlestick, a resoldered base to the second candlestick (which still retains a slight wiggle), some casting flaws (one particularly noted to a bobeche), light dings and indentions here & there, and some light edge wear to the bases. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: James Clew & Sons Marks: Marked to the side of each candlestick's base 'King Of Diamonds'. Measurements: Height: ca. 12 1/2 in. Diameter: ca. 4 3/4 in.
