About the Item
A stunning and most decorative pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu candlesticks. Each stunning candlestick is raised on a circular base with a fine mottled border, beaded band and a most decorative broad wrap around acanthus leaf band. The central supports display most elegant richly chased maidens draped in flowing garments and swaging berried foliate garlands amidst acanthus leaves in a striking satin and burnished finish. Above the central supports is a triangular block with concave sides decorated by rosettes on all sides. Atop the triangular platform is a fluted designed small scale urn shaped candle cup supported by three legs with lion's head top caps and supported on pawed feet. The circular bobeche above the small scaled urn shaped candle cup is designed with a Coeur-de-Rai edge.
