Russian Empire Gilt Bronze Candlesticks in the manner Pierre-Philippe Thomire

About the Item

A Pair of Russian Empire gilt bronze candlesticks produced in France / Russia around 1810 in the manner of Pierre-Philippe Thomire Of substantial size and expertly cast in matt and burnished gilt bronze. This model was often attributed to the French bronzier, Pierre-Philippe Thomire. A large pair of Russian Empire gilt brass candlesticks, the chased upper section embellished with 3 horned rams heads on a plain tapered stem culminating on 3 lion paw feet resting on a sphere each with a round base decorated with stylized anthemions. Each candlestick is made up of 12 separate sections. Today there are very few similar examples of varying quality and degrees of decoration. The Ostankino Museum, Moscow has a very similar model and an almost identical model which was made in a Moscow workshop, is illustrated in Igor Sychev, The Russian Chandeliers 1760-1830, 2003, p. 191, fig. 968.
