About the Item

A set of 6 'Festivo' glass candle holders. Designed by Timo Sarpaneva 1967 and made by Iittala in Finland, 1970s. Great condition. Signed 'TS' underneath. Height: 8,3 - 18,5 cm Designed by the renowned Finnish designer Timo Sarpaneva in 1967, the Festivo candleholder has become an international favorite and is one of the most recognizable objects of Finnish design. The Festivo candleholder originated when Sarpaneva designed a large wine glass to hold an entire bottle of wine, attached to the base of the candle holder. The idea evolved, and the wine glass base was transformed into a candleholder. The Festivo candleholder is made using the **rosoglass technique**, which involves pressing molten glass into molds to create a textured surface. This technique was particularly popular in the 1960s and 1970s. The candleholders come in various heights, ranging from 80 cm to 315 cm, with the most common being the six-bulb Festivo, standing at 215 cm. Festivo quickly became a hit and turned into a Finnish home icon. Its timeless design and elegant appearance have ensured its popularity over the years. The candleholder's unique texture and design make it a cherished piece for collectors and design enthusiasts alike.
