An Italian 19th Century Patinated Bronze Torchere, After Niccolò Roccatagliata
By Niccolo Roccatagliata
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A Large and Impressive Italian 19th Century Patinated Bronze Figural Torchere, after a model by Niccolò Roccatagliata (Genoa 1593 - Venice 1636). The triangular foot base with projecting putti supporting the stem and oval reserves within cartouche motifs, one containing the initials "S.D" with an olive tree in-between and a bull-head below. The stem knot with figures of winged caryatids and festoons and upper part with cherub heads, acanthus leaves and egg and bead patterns and topped with a later white glass globe. The decorative system refers to the documented artistic production of the Venetian workshop of Niccolò Roccatagliata and takes inspirational model from the base of the Renaissance bronze of the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro in Venice, a work signed by Andrea del Bartolomeo di Alessandri known as Brescianino. Electrified. Circa: Venice, 1850-1880. RELATED LITERATURE L. Planiscig, Venezianische Bildhauer der Renaissance, Vienna, 1921, figs. Similar models of this torchere were part of the interior decor collection at the Vanderbilt Mansion in New York (see black and white photo). The Cornelius Vanderbilt II House was a large mansion built in 1883 at 1 West 57th Street in Manhattan, New York City. It occupied the frontage along the west side of Fifth Avenue from West 57th Street up to West 58th Street at Grand Army...

These gorgeous works measure 33 x 15 cm and are sure to capture the attention of anybody who sees them. We are selling this beautiful pair on different platforms; please check availability before purchasing. More photos may be provided if necessary. Please feel free to ask any questions. Storyteller: Mr. Anderson, a successful businessman, and his daughter, Lily, made their home in a stately rural manor. Over the years, Mr. Anderson amassed a collection of rare paintings and priceless vases, which he proudly displayed in his home. Mr. Anderson was perusing an antique shop one day when he stumbled upon a pair of gorgeous French opaline glass lusters. These goblet-shaped lusters were gilded in pink and white-hued glass and hand-made in France between 1850 and 1900. Mr. Anderson bought the lusters without hesitating and carried them home to add to his collection. The moment he set them on the mantel in the living room, they commanded everyone's attention. Pink and white opaline glass sparkled in the sunshine, creating a cozy atmosphere. Like a magnet, Lily was pulled to the lusters and stared at them in awe for hours. She was captivated by the way the light reflected off the glass and highlighted the fine features of the pattern. Seeing her interest, her father proceeded to educate her about the origins of opaline glass and the meaning of its lusters. They put their heads together and discovered that opaline glass was specially designed to create elaborate chandeliers...

Single Goblet Shaped, Gilded and Painted White Opaline Glass Luster, Late 19th C
Located in Queens Village, NY
This luster takes the form of a goblet, and it is covered in stunning Islamic and Arabic motifs. There's a good chance that the product was made with the Turkish market in mind. It was created in France between the years 1850 and 1920, but the exact year is unknown. This particular luster has not even the slightest chip or crack in it. Because the artwork is not burned into the glass and some of it has been scratched out through the years, we are unable to come to a consensus regarding how old this item is. The gold and the paintings have both lost some of their color and sparkle as a result of the passage of time. We are selling this beautiful luster on different platforms; please check availability before purchasing. More photos may be provided if necessary. Storyteller: Amina loved browsing through antique shops, always on the lookout for unique treasures to add to her collection. One day, she came across a stunning luster goblet with intricate Arabic designs covering it. Amina was immediately drawn to its beauty and knew she had to have it. As she examined the goblet, she noticed that it was in perfect condition, with no chips or cracks, and the designs seemed to be etched into the glass. She wondered about its age, and after some research, she discovered that it was made in France between 1850 and 1920, most likely for the Turkish market. However, the exact year of its creation remained a mystery. Excited to show off her new find, Amina invited her friends over for a small gathering. As they admired the goblet's unique decorations and shimmering gold, Amina noticed her friend Ali studying it intently. When she asked if everything was alright, Ali shared a memory from his childhood: his grandfather's ancient Arabic...
