Antique German Silver Candelabra
Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne
An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique German 800 standard silver six-light candelabra; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection These exceptional antique German silver candelabra have a square shaped form to a cylindrical column onto a stepped swept square foot. Each impressive silver six light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms embellished with reed decoration. The branches (labra) support six circular rounded capitals, each embellished with embossed fluted and floral decoration, all segmented with bead decoration. The capitals are fitted with the original push fit incurved square sconces, embellished with further reed decoration. Each capital of these German candelabra centrepieces surmount an impressive square drip pan, featuring identical ornamentation to that of the sconces. Each silver candelabrum is fitted with a detachable screw fit central elevated capital, bearing the same ornamentation as the aforementioned examples; this detachable screw fit component indicates the high quality of the piece. These versatile candelabra can be used as candlesticks once the arms are detached. The Corinthian capital surmounts a Classic column encircled with vertical fluted decoration. The plain square swept foot is embellished with an applied wreath design, in addition to tied reed decoration to the lower portion. Both German silver candelabra have weighted bases, as to be expected, and are fitted with green baize to the underside. The hallmarks to the rim of each antique silver base include: National mark: Crescent moon and crown Silver quality/purity mark: .800 (800/1000) Maker's mark: Unknown Retailers mark: W. Kluge & Co, Berlin Such six-light candelabra are highly desirable and becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition These exceptional examples of 1900s silverware...

Antique Sterling Silver Five Light Candelabra, Empire Style, Circa 1930
Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne
An exceptional, fine and impressive, large pair of antique German silver five light candelabra made in the Empire style; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection These exceptional and large antique German silver candelabra have a plain circular form, in the Empire style. Each impressive candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms, which support Corinthian capitals with plain, hallmarked circular dished drip pans. The central boss conjoining the arms is embellished with embossed acorn style finials and floral medallions encompassed with swag ornamentation, all in the Empire style. These versatile antique and large candelabra can be used with five lights or as candlesticks once the arms (labra) are detached. The Corinthian style columns are surmounted on a circular swept foot, to an octagonal spreading collet style base. Each foot is further embellished with embossed festoon and strap decoration, emanating from a large circular knop. The five light silver candelabra/candlesticks do not have weighted bases. The hallmarks struck to each base consists of: Silver quality/purity mark: 800 (800/1000) National mark: Crescent moon and crown NOTE: Such German examples are designed to create imposing and large centrepieces, therefore are not crafted with a heavy gauge of silver. The British silver equivalent would be three or four times the weight; proportionally these candelabra are very good value for their size. Condition These antique 5 light silver candelabra are a very good gauge of silver for their type and exceptional quality. There are a few minor surface blemishes, however they can be considered to be in excellent presentation condition. The German hallmarks struck to each base are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these large silver candelabra...
