A rare and Superb Grandfather clock - Netherlands, Amsterdam, signed PAULUS BRAMER (ca. 1730-1760) Walnut case inlaid with fruitwood floral motifs, upper part painted with mythological scene, circular dial signed Paulus Bramer Amsterdam (c. 1730-1760) with Arabic and Roman numerals, subsidiary dials with moon phase, days of the week, month, and date display. Pendulum regulator and hour and half-hour chime on bell. Height x width x depth: 242 x 66 x 31 cm. Item condition grading: **** good. (Pendulum missing). Magnificent example of a grandfather clock, England , last decade of the 19th century, late Victorian period, with influences from the coming Edwardian style. We are dealing with a true work of art, a block of flamed mahogany, completely inlaid with floral motifs in fruit woods. Impressive case but of a proportion that makes the cabinet slender and well-proportioned. In addition to the skillful craftsmanship of the cabinetmaker who made this wooden body that looks like a painting, we must dwell on the mechanism! Functioning, 8 reeds and three weights, it plays every quarter of an hour a part of the melody, at the stroke of the hour and after a minute ( it served as a reminder of the hour) the whole melody.
