About the Item
George III Figured Mahogany Longcase Clock by John Allam, circa 1780, of architectural form, the 12 in. brass dial with silvered chapter ring, seconds ring and oval plaque signed John Allam, London, and date aperture, strike/silent lever, the 8 day movement striking on bell. 84" H x 20" W x 10.5" D.
Provenance: Acquired from Derek Roberts, Tonbridge, Kent UK, in 2005. From an 1120 Park Ave Estate,
Note: John Allam is recorded in G. H. Baillie, "Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World" as working in London from 1777-1798. He also worked in partnership with Stacey (1781-1785) and Caithness in 1805 as successors to Allam & Clements. This clock carries many similarities in form and design as seen in other longcase clocks made by Allam & Clements.
