Northern Swedish Grandfather Clock w/Original Metal Face & Movement, circa 1820s

About the Item

A Swedish carved-wood floor clock, with its original face and movement, from the 19th century . This tall antique clock from northern Sweden has an exaggerated and raised bonnet of fanned leaves crowning the top of the rounded head, with metal face (behind glass door) having hand-painted numbers. There is curved trim molding which accentuates the neck and waist. The belly has a glass window at it's center, allowing the pendulum to be viewed. The clock is presented upon volute carved feet. The clock has a scraped finish, with traces of green colored paint throughout, a pale grey/blue crest, and gold accents. This clock would be a wonderful decorative object. As though it retains it's original face and movement, it is not currently in working condition. However, for an additional cost, it can be quartzed to keep perfect time (please contact our showroom prior to purchase for more information). For quartzing, a new battery would be added behind the face. The original hands are too heavy to carry the quartz movement, so they would be changed to black hands, similar in style. The clock would then chime (the chime can be turned off even though the sound is quite delightful). A pendulum selected to work with the quartz movement would be added behind the glass opening. This 19th century Northern Swedish grandfather clock would be a lovely addition to a bedroom, living area, or entry hall.
