About the Item

A fine quality Napoleon III mantle clock with a case of gilded, silvered, and patinated bronze. The base of the clock is in chased gilded bronze with elaborate moldings. The patinated ‘rocky’ middle section houses the movement and dial over which a silver and gold Oriental warrior, arms outstretched with bow and arrow, rides on his horse. This type of ‘three color’ bronze clock case was popular during the third quarter of the 19th century in France. The original eight-day movement has a silvered dial with Roman numerals, and rings a bell on the hours and halfs. The case has been cleaned to its original condition and the movement has been serviced.
