About the Item

It features a highly ornate base resting on four round legs with intricate patterns. The central clock face has Roman numerals, and is framed within a heavily decorated bezel representing intricate floral and foliage motifs. The focal point of this piece is undoubtedly the figure representing a musician, dressed in a classical Greco-Roman attire. The figure is depicted playing a lyre, which in the ancient times symbolised the artistic, musical and poetic prowess, as well as harmony. There is also a guitar placed to the right of the clock, further highlighting the musical theme. Finally, the lower part of the clock features ornamental accents and scrollwork designs, including floral motifs, depictions of instruments and two putti on each side, adding to the mythological theme exuded clock. The overall aesthetic, drawing on elements of neoclassicism, is one of grandeur, evoking ideas of cultural sophistication during the Empire period. This charming timepiece stands as a testament to the elegance and artistry of French Empire craftsmanship, making it a stunning addition to any collection and a cherished piece for admirers of historical elegance.
