19th Century Louis XV Style Gilt Bronze Clock Garniture By Ch. Drieu, Paris

About the Item

A stunning 19th century ormolu clock garniture in the Louis XV style by Ch. Drieu, the white enamel with Roman numerals signed “Ch. Drieu, 4 Rue de Thorigny”. The clock is flanked by two finely cast allegorical figures, possibly representing classical muses or virtues, resting on an ornate Rococo base with C-scrolls, floral details, and naturalistic swirls, surmounted by a classical urn or foliate finial, possibly featuring birds or floral festoons. The highly sculptural, symmetrical, and elegant in gold doré bronze (ormolu), all finely chased and detailed. The pair of candelabra each features seven branches (six lights plus central finial) with scrolling acanthus arms, the bases are similarly designed with seated classical female figures holding attributes, suggesting allegorical meanings (e.g., music, literature, or abundance). Each stands on an ornate Rococo base that mirrors the central clock. Circa 1880 France Ch.
