Antique French Gilt Bronze Clock Set by Royer

About the Item

This beautiful gilt bronze (ormolu) clock set was crafted, circa 1870 in France. The set is designed in a rich Rococo style, after decorative art of the Louis XV period (1715-1774). The set is comprised of a central mantel clock and a pair of flanking candelabra. The clock features a shaped triangular body, topped by a classical urn, which is crowned by a pinecone finial and draped with swags. At the centre of the clock case, there is a circular white enamel dial which features black Arabic Numbers and Roman Numerals and the maker’s name ‘Ernest Royer/ Paris’. This dial is covered by a glass lens with a beaded bezel and is surmounted by a ribbon bow. The clock dial is set on a plinth which is flanked by two acanthus leaf scrolls, draped with swags. These stand on an oval base, which is edged with a wreath and decorated with stylised foliate motifs. This base is set on eight feet, two of which are peg and four toupie. Each candelabrum features eight lights: one central candleholder, with a removable flame finial, and seven more supported on curved, twisting branches. Scrolls enclosing floral motifs decorate these branches. The branches terminate in beaded drip-pans and urn-shaped capitals with beaded sconces. They spring from twin-handled urns, set on shaped triangular stems. Like the clock, these stems feature pedestal-like central supports, which are flanked by leafy scrolls, draped with swags. They stand on oval bases, which are decorated with foliage. Each candelabrum stands on six feet, four peg and two toupie. Clock measures:  Height 60cm, width 52cm, depth 21cm Candelabra: Height 74cm, width 35cm, depth 30cm

Antique Marble, Patinated and Gilt Bronze Clock Set by Gervais
By Ferdinand Gervais
Located in London, GB
This three-piece set—composed of a clock and a pair of flanking candelabra—is a truly unique and delightful piece of decorative art. The clock is modelled in the image of an 18th century sedan chair – that is, a covered chair sat in by a member of the social elite, which was carried on poles by two people. This chair-shaped clock case is crafted from gilt bronze (ormolu) and decorated with festoons and a flower finial. At its centre, there is a circular white enamel dial, which features Arabic Numbers, colorful swag paintings, and the manufacturer’s name, 'Fd Gervais / Ft du Bronzes / A Paris'. The lower part of the case is glazed, allowing one to see the clock’s sun-burst pendulum. Like a sedan chair, the clock case is carried by two patinated bronze putti...

Antique Egyptian Revival Style Marble and Gilt Bronze Clock Set

This clock set is designed in the Egyptian Revival style, which was in vogue in Europe and America in the 19th century.
