About the Item
Architectural clock with lion and gilded bronze
This watch that combines elegance and majesty was made by Samuele Marti around the year 1900. A "Médaille d'Or - Paris 1900" mark can be seen on the back. This mark indicates that the movement received a bronze medal at the 1900 Paris World's Fair. Samuel Marti used this stamp after that year to certify the quality of his movements. Made of polychrome marble, it features a shaped base and two columns framing the clock case with gilded bronze details. Above, a sculpture of a golden bronze lion dominates the composition, a symbol of strength and power. The dial is surrounded by a gilt frame and decorated with floral motifs.
Style: although the clock recalls classical motifs such as columns and lion, its production is late nineteenth/early twentieth century. These forms continue until 1905-1910 in the catalogs of the time.
