Art Deco Gilt Bronze & Marble Mantel Clock w. Sphinx & Pharaohs Egyptian Revival

About the Item

Large and stunningly figural Egyptian design, style marble clock garniture, circa 1920. If you are looking for a statement piece for your mantel and you have an interest in worldly subject matters in general and in the history and culture of Egypt in particular then this 'grand clock' from the European Art Deco era could be yours to own and enjoy soon. All hand-crafted with some of the most expensive materials and techniques that money could buy in the 1920s this amazing clock really portrays what French artisans were capable of creating in those days. Looking at this antique tells you that time and money really seemed not to be an object in those days. Using the most beautiful marble and decorating it with perfectly gilt bronze sculptures, it really makes this a statement piece. Have you also noticed the perfectly white enameled and hand-painted dial face and original dials? They too are of museum quality and condition and so too is the circular bronze door with the beveled glass windown. The two Egyptian, Cleopatra-like female figures in gilt bronze are standing leisurely upon the rectangular footed base and with their arms stretched-out above it is as if they, together with the four marble columns, too are supporting the striking marble part with the clock's movement inside and the gilt bronze Sphinx sculpture on top. The two figural garnitures too come with gilt bronze females that are supporting marble dish-like vessels. Maybe it is the artist's way of saying that women played a very important role in the grand history and culture of Egypt. This striking clock even comes with a decorated, gilt bronze pendulum weight and the key for winding both the clock and striking mechanism. This work of beauty comes with a truly perfect working, eight day, mint brass clock mechanism that runs as smoothly as can be and it strikes an elegant bell sound on the halves and whole hours. If you already have a place in mind for this stunning Art Deco clock then she could be gracing your home soon. Mind you, our price for this rare and meaningful clock even includes perfect packing and also worldwide shipping from our store to your door in just 3 to 6 workdays. Rare Bronze & Black Marble Clock Set by Deniere A Paris the Philosopher, c.1860
By Maison Deniere
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare & fabulous Antique Napoleon lll clock garniture with incredible quality bronze sculptures. You will rarely see a clock garniture with bronzes of this quality and detail. The bearded thinker/philosopher on top of the marble clock is simply astonishing. His natural poisture, his hair, face and hands, but also his clothes, it is all of a quality and detail that only a master sculptor can achieve. And the patina also is just perfect. The philosopher is marked on the back and it reads 'BE x'. The two bronze female (classical maiden) sculptures are in fact two stunning candle holders and they too stand on beautifully shaped black marble bases with cartouches. These majestic candle holders are marked on the sides 'L.V.E. ROBERT' (Louis Valentin Elias Robert) and on the back they read 'AD x'. The black marble clock comes with a circular dial face with gilt Roman numerals and this clock has a well working movement. The movement is stamped 'DENIERE / A PARIS' and '2165'. On the bottom it reads A.Blacher and there also is a cachet with 'MEDAILLE D'OR / Paris / 1827'. If you like this one of a kind, clock set as much as we do then you will love our price. Especially, since perfect packing (in a custom made crate) and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days are complimentary.
