Art Nouveau Gilt Bronze Lady Sculpture Mantel Clock with 2 Matching Candelabras

About the Item

Large and impressive, Bonnefond signed clock garniture with top quality bronze lady sculptures. This Art Nouveau clock garniture is in the wonderful style of the Nancy School (l'école Nancy). The vibrant lady on the left side of the pendulum represents the day(time) and the serene face atop this gilt bronze pendulum, the night(time). The numerous organic motifs in gilt, solid bronze make this rare and original set an absolute joy to own and look at. It is marked Bonnefond which means it is by French Art Nouveau designer Claude Bonnefond. The magnificently shaped, five light candelabras on either side of the pendulum too are completely original and in the best possible condition. The way in which the dresses of the elegant lady sculptures transfer into the organic base of the candelabras is like flowing liquid. To find this sizable and stunning Art Nouveau garniture in such a marvelous condition more than made our day. To make sure that the movement is in perfect working order we had it checked and cleaned and it now runs and strikes perfectly again. The elegantly hand-painted and enameled dial face with the original hands too is in excellent condition. On the right mantel piece or dresser this museum quality clock garniture will immediately and permanently lift the look and feel of the space she is in. Again great value. Especially when taken into account that perfect packing and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days are complimentary. Rare and stunning majolica glazed antique clock from the European Art Nouveau era. If you like rare Arts & Crafts antiques in general and marvelous clocks in particular then this handcrafted table clock from circa 1900-1910 could be the perfect addition to your collection / interior. When you understand how many difficult and time consuming techniques it took to create this antique work of time telling art, will you really be able to appreciate its beauty, rarity and quality. First of all, it would have taken a designer several days, if not weeks, to hand draw this design and this would take multiple sketches. Secondly, a ceramics specialist created the perfectly shaped and glazed majolica 'clock house'. This requires glazing and heating/'baking' in the keln and there too many things can go wrong. Thirdly, the aesthetically beautiful flower sculptures that you now see in gilt bronze, would first have to be sculpted out of clay or another material. From that initial sculpture a mold would have to be made and that mold would then be filled with extremely hot liquid bronze. The bronze sculpture would then have to be sanded, polished and gilt. Fourthly, in both the glazed ceramic clock house and the bronze flowers...
