Fine and Large Antique French Ormolu Rococo Clock

About the Item

A substantial and very fine quality ormolu Rococo clock by Samuel Marti. Formed in finely gilded bronze, bold, sinuous scrolls and curves form the case with delicately modelled floral and foliate decoration. It stands on an integral naturalistically formed base with scroll supports. Fabric backed panels are inset, beautiful pieced and engraved. Exceptionally well modelled, finished and gilded. The superb and large dial is porcelain enamel on copper with beautifully made pieced, engraved and gilded hands. The French movement is by Samuel Marti and is of high quality. It is fitted in pin-pallet escapement and rack striking. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video of the lock running, please ask and we will send you a link. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with some slight wear on the high spots and discolouration. The dial is also in excellent condition with no damage, just a faint hairline near the '12'. We have replaced the fabric with fresh. Samuel Marti mark on the movement backplate Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required. Dimensions of clock: inches: height 17", width 11", depth 6 3/4" centimetres: height 43 cm, width 28 cm, depth 17 cm.

    An exquisite Louis XV style gilt and patinated bronze cartel clock. The eight-day two train bell striking movement, with vertically planted platform cylinder escapement and stamped with S.
