A French 19th century Louis XVI st. clock signed Le Merle Charpentier Bronzier

About the Item

A most elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. Rouge Griotte marble and ormolu mounted clock signed Le Merle Charpentier Bronzier, Paris Rue Charlot. The clock is raised by six topie shaped ormolu sabots below the rectangular marble frieze displaying a decorative band centered by a recessed panel with a protruding female mask and flanked by stunning rosettes. Above is the enameled dial encased in a glass and ormolu case with a half round outer egg and dart design, and inner berried laurel branches with swaging floral garlands and fruits. The case is flanked by elegant fluted columns below urns with the eternal flame and below the top center Urn of Prosperity. All original gilt throughout.
